Tony Weiss is founding chair of the S-star international teaching consortium, which for provides online classes in bioinformatics at s-star.org and links contributions by six prestige academic institutions spanning five continents. He also chairs the v-Department of Molecular Biotechnology, University of Sydney Australia, which he established through a combination of government and industry support. He is Associate Professor in Biochemistry, Honorary Visiting in Molecular and Clinical Genetics at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, and Visiting Professor at the National University of Singapore. He was an ARC Postdoctoral Fellow, NIH Fogarty International Fellow, Fulbright Fellow at Stanford University, CSIRO Postdoctoral Scholar, Thomas and Ethel Mary Ewing Scholar and Royal Society Exchange Fellow. He received the David Syme Research Prize and Medal for the best original research work in Biology, Chemistry, Geology or Physics, produced in Australia, during the preceding two years, and was given the Amersham Pharmacia Biotechnology Medal by ASBMB for distinguished contributions to the field of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
