The development of online training media has the potential to have a global impact on training and education. The first prototype gloabl course in bioinformatics online was an extrmely attractive option for training in Africa. We discovered several major problems to the continued success of the approach, but have developed some basic changes to the delivery mecahnism that should improve the means by which education canbe secured in a remote fashion in Africa. these inlcude: low bandwidth delivery, CD rom delivery, direct email interaction, and liason between international developers and local developers.
